Recall to Service

BISHOP's 24-hour call-out confessional service was a great hit

Someone's messing about with the revolutionary remote-controlled Aquatank the day before it's due to be showcased to NATO supremos. Father Unwin dusts down his khakis after getting a swift recommission to find out what's going on. Naturally, Matthew gets to sit in the most dangerous bit again while Gabriel makes an explosive dash across the plains.

Stanspotting: 1 - just the driving shots again, although this time in uniform

Unwinese-a-nometer: 8 - two stabs: another excellent exchange with a baffled sentry and a few words with the Aquatank professor (above, right).top

Errand of Mercy

It was Matthew's first time at a Kiss gig

A wonderfully barking episode! The Reverend suffers a bout of sunstroke while working on Gabriel and ends up having a surreal dream about flying the Model 'T' to Africa to deliver some medical supplies. On the way he and Matthew stop off at a petrol station/tea room run by Mrs Appleby just outside Timbuctoo. Then they're kidnapped by natives. I'm not making this up, honest.

Stanspotting: 0 - nowt.

Unwinese-a-nometer: 9 - a brilliant 'discussion' with the local tribesmen who understand him perfectly. You can just catch them shouting 'goodly byelode' and 'cheeryhokus' when they take off. Marvellous stuff. top

The Deadly Whisper

The Westlife tourbus was just coming into view...

Trials of a revolutionary airliner are about to get disrupted when a scientist's daughter is kidnapped. The bad guys want to force her father, Soames, to hand over his sonic rifle (above) so they can shoot the plane down but make it look like a design fault accident. However, the rose-growing scientist, manages to tip off fellow horticulturalists Stanley and Matthew who leap to the rescue.

Stanspotting: 7 - a good few closer up shots going into and out of Soames's house.

Unwinese-a-nometer: 7 - another befuddled exchange, this time with the lead bad guy. top

The Cure

'Yow ain't seen me, roight?'

Freelance spy Sovak (above, right) checks into a local nursing home that just happens to overlook a racetrack where they're testing a new chemical which, when added to distilled water, performs even better than petrol. The Bishop sends our boys in to head off any sabotage but it all goes a bit pear shaped when the Reverend gets trapped on a therapy bed. Meanwhile down in the pits, there are some very dodgy accents knocking about.

Stanspotting: 3 - a couple of distant shots of Stan getting out of Gabriel..

Unwinese-a-nometer: 4 - a couple of bits here and there. Nowt special, really. top

School for Spies

The Archdeacon's 'Tommy Cooper' routine fooled no one

There's been an increase in mainland sabotage attacks and they're being undertaken by a group of dog-collared bad guys led by the sinister 'Archdeacon'. Father Unwin - no disguise necessary - infiltrates the gang seamlessly, posing as an explosives expert for their next mission. But it all goes badly wrong when Matthew gets stuck on a speedboat heading for destruction...

Stanspotting: 2 - some minor driving shots and a brief walk up to the bad lads' HQ.

Unwinese-a-nometer: 2 - a few bits here and there, although you do get the impression there was a huge bit cut as he took the detonators test. I wonder if that's on a cutting room floor somewhere... top

May-Day, May-Day!

Matthew had been single for too long...

The King of Moldovia has flown into London to negotiate some oil concessions, unaware that his brother is behind a recent spate of assassination attempts. Stanley and Matthew are assigned to his retinue, accompanying the King on a plane trip to New York. Unfortunately, his dastardly brother has planted a bomb! In a Teddy Bear!! And now the flight crew have been gassed!!! Will our chums be able to find the bomb and land the plane?!?!?! Er...probably.

Stanspotting: 1 - one very minor driving shot on Westminster Bridge..

Unwinese-a-nometer: 4 - just a couple of incidental chit-chats between Stan and the King. top

More Haste Less Speed

His Lordship's lapdancing routines left a lot to be desired

Another wonderfully batty episode as Lord Hazelwell, his strikingly odd sister Martha and a couple of crooks called Striker and Mullins attempt to cross and double cross each other for  possession of two counterfeit dollar bill printing plates. A miniaturised padre and Matthew set off in hot pursuit while Mullins's accent darts about all over the north of England.

Stanspotting: 0 - nothing. Not a sausage.

Unwinese-a-nometer: 0 - see above. top
